This has never been me. I have dabbled in an occasional hair color when I get bored looking at myself in the mirror. I went through a bad perm when everyone did in the 80's and also tried a pierced ear to be cool until I soon realized I wasn't. I guess I choose to make my fashion statements by the clothes I wear and not my face itself. How very GQ of me! But I had to chuckle at this Sad And Useless blog entry that shows everyday people and their progressive makeovers into famous celebrities. It may be a trend I have missed out on and should try. But who would I best be? Joan Rivers? Spike from Buffy? What's his name from Simon and Simon? I have gotten each of these at some point but would much rather be thought of as a Jake Gylenhaal or Chris Evans. Maybe I will fire one back for my upcoming birthday and get some feedback.
I know I write a lot of about dear Waylon, but I would be remiss if I missed a shout out to him on this special annual day. For anyone who has taken in a poor and disoriented shelter dog and given them a second chance in life. They should all be this lucky. Yesterday I took a day of summer vacation and he frolicked in the waves of the St Croix until he was exhausted. Just a shore of water and a piece of driftwood. Today he spent the day at work with me sprawled on the floor and tonight he got a trip with us to the Dairy Queen where he got to lick the cups of my cherry sundae. life is good for him!
As Fall always does, late summer brings some sadness as the plants fade into dormancy and the color pales for yet another year. I have started digging a few of the transplants to set new roots in the remaining sun we have left. Threw a few mums to give a last burst of color into pots. And am still shopping for one last tree to fill the void where the mountain ash died. Still a tragic loss. But I did find this breathtaking video montage of plants coming into bloom in hi-def. Just like snowflakes - each is it's own wonder. The way the Moonflower unfurls, the Iris unknots its fronds and even the Marigold bursts from its pod. The brilliant Wonder of Nature. I have almost every variety at some point in my garden and should make it a point to revisit a plant a week to get me through the long chill of the coming months.
I am probably one of the last to catch hold of Teen Buzz and hot summer trends. But I did stumble onto this track the other day in the car on the way to work. All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor that is gaining some momentum on the pop charts. A catchy tune with a nice beat - I give it a 10! So I went to iTunes to see what else she has out there and maybe download the track and got some great history on her. This is her only song, not even an EP to purchase. Apparently she is first a songwriter from the Nantucket MA area. She wrote this tune and was shopping it around to no interest. Labels shrugged and wrote it off as not being "pop-y" enough. She finally made notice at Epic records when a producer heard her singing it with a ukelele. They decided to keep the tune much as it was written with the retro-R&B sound that worked so well for Amy Winehouse & Mayer Hawthorne. And instead of pinch hitting with a chart topper, insisted that Meghan sing the song herself. Even more appealing is that fact that she is an attractive blonde, but not with the L.A. package that seems to be required of a trendy pop star like a Katy Perry or Kesha. "Bass" features standout lines like "it's pretty clear, I ain't no size
two," "I'm bringing booty back" and "yeah my momma, she told me don't
worry about your size." The video also parodies the Barbie image that perpetuates itself among young girls. No surprise then that it is soaring up the late summer charts and Meghan is quickly at work on an LP to showcase more of her aspiring talent. As Adele recently proved - It ain't over til the Fat Lady sings! You Go Girl!
With my large workloads and drama from car accidents, coming home to a happy dog named Waylon is always a highlight of each day. He expects so little and has a happy tail and sweet kisses to greet me in our daily routines. A square of green grass and a cool breeze is all he needs. A treat is a special offering. So I am sharing this boredpanda collage of Big Dogs, Little Kids. I was one of those little kids with a dog in so many of my childhood photos. Each one is a snapshot of reliable companionship.
