All About That Bass

I am probably one of the last to catch hold of Teen Buzz and hot summer trends. But I did stumble onto this track the other day in the car on the way to work. All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor that is gaining some momentum on the pop charts. A catchy tune with a nice beat - I give it a 10!

So I went to iTunes to see what else she has out there and maybe download the track and got some great history on her. This is her only song, not even an EP to purchase. Apparently she is first a songwriter from the Nantucket MA area. She wrote this tune and was shopping it around to no interest. Labels shrugged and wrote it off as not being "pop-y" enough. She finally made notice at Epic records when a producer heard her singing it with a ukelele. They decided to keep the tune much as it was written with the retro-R&B sound that worked so well for Amy Winehouse & Mayer Hawthorne. And instead of pinch hitting with a chart topper, insisted that Meghan sing the song herself.

Even more appealing is that fact that she is an attractive blonde, but not with the L.A. package that seems to be required of a trendy pop star like a Katy Perry or Kesha. "Bass" features standout lines like "it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two," "I'm bringing booty back" and "yeah my momma, she told me don't worry about your size." The video also parodies the Barbie image that perpetuates itself among young girls. No surprise then that it is soaring up the late summer charts and Meghan is quickly at work on an LP to showcase more of her aspiring talent. As Adele recently proved - It ain't over til the Fat Lady sings! You Go Girl!
